MicroCare and Great Lakes feel strongly that the Bromothane™ family of cleaners are very safe when properly used, and that specifically means "used in an engineered system which minimizes worker exposures." Aerosols are not an engineered system and are prone to abuse. MicroCare has seen operators spray solvents carelessly and in potentially dangerous ways. In fact, the whole point of MicroCare's famous Trigger Grip system is to minimize worker exposure to careless handling and vapors.
MicroCare has measured worker exposures using aerosol cans. With the TriggerGrip™ system, exposures rarely go above 15 parts per million. Without a TriggerGrip™ dispenser, the exposure levels are more in the 100-150 parts per million range, depending on the pressure of the can and the duration of the spray. But in either instance, the use of an aerosol spray would subject the worker to exposures in excess of the recommended Bromothane™ exposure limits.
[ Photo, left ] MicroCare offers many nifty aerosol products made from many different solvents. They often are used with the patented TriggerGrip™ dispenser, which minimizes worker exposure to solvent vapors. None of the Bromothane™ solvents, however, are available in aerosol packaging.
If you need precision cleaning on the benchtop (or some sort of hand-dipping or hand-wiping application), then the Bromothane™ solvents are not right for you. In those instances, we probably would recommend one of the excellent Vertrel solvents from DuPont, or one of the many aerosol cleaners from MicroCare. But if you have an engineered system which keeps the solvent under tight control, then these cleaners could be an ideal and very cost-effective choice.
