The vapors from Bromothane are generally not hazardous unless there is significant over-exposure to the vapors, but nonetheless monitoring the chemical exposure is an important part of a company's worker safety program.
The hazards associated with n-propyl bromide vary by the extent of the exposure. Short-term over-exposure can lead to skin and eye irritation, dizziness or headaches. Long-term tests show effects on fertility in laboratory animals.
Every employee using the solvent should be trained on the proper storage, usage and handling procedures, including drum pumps and personal protective equipment, and eye protection which are used to avoid overexposure to the vapors.
Given that preamble, MicroCare requires an annual air quality sampling program as part of the Bromothane product stewardship program. All Bromothane users are required to conduct a simple workplace exposure test using the air-monitoring badges (or ones similar to these) to ensure worker safety.
Exposure badges are an easy way for the employee to go about their daily routine while wearing the badge to determine the exposure to a chemical. After wearing the badge for eight (8) hours the badge is sent to an independent lab to determine exposure levels. The cost of the lab analysis for each badge is included in the price of the kit from MicroCare.
Exposures badges normally are packaged individually. If desired, the badges can be purchased in bulk for less expensive shipping and more convenient availability at your plant; contact MicroCare for details on bulk pricing.
The Air Monitoring Badge Kit is available commercially from MicroCare in the following packaging:
M2S-BQ <1 lb.(0.4 kg) Each Badge
