 • Use BromoBooster to Extend the Life of the Solvent •

All Bromothane™ solvents are azeotropes or blends of normal propyl bromide (nPB), other cleaning additives and a unique stabilizer “package.” The combination of these ingredients makes these powerful, nonflammable solvents ideal for use in vapor degreasers. The chemical stabilizer prevents the nPB from degrading into acidic compounds due to the presence of moisture and/or metals in the cleaning system. Every Bromothane™ product includes the stabilizer which neutralizes any such acidity before it becomes a problem.

Depending upon the quantity of water and/or metal particulate in the system, the stabilizer may be consumed. A simple “Acid Acceptance Test” using the BromoTest™ kit should be performed on a regular basis to measure the condition of the solvent and the stabilizer concentration. If the stabilizer concentration is low, BromoBooster™ is added to the degreaser to restore the proper solvent / stabilizer ratio extending the solvent life.

Note that BromoBooster™ should never be used as a stand-alone solvent or cleaning agent. It is designed specifically and only to be used as a stabilizer additive for Bromothane™-brand solvents. In addition, BromoBooster™ is not designed to be used with nPB-based products from other suppliers.

 • Worker Safety •

BromoBooster™ is highly flammable and exhibits a flashpoint of <-18°C/<-4°F when tested using industry standard procedures. It should be handled with all of the normal care provided to other flammable liquids.

No toxicity rating has been established for BromoBooster™ but one of the ingredients is nPB. Short-term over-exposure to nPB can lead to skin and eye irritation, dizziness or headaches. Long-term tests show effects on fertility in laboratory animals. Great Lakes Chemical Corp., the supplier of the ingredients in the Bromothane™ cleaners, recommends a level of 10 ppm while the U.S. E.P.A., through the SNAP process, recommends a worker exposure level of 25 ppm. These ratings mean the BromoBooster™ product can be used safely when handled using the recommended procedures.

Refer to the MSDS sheet for additional details.

 • Storage, Handling and Disposal •

BromoBooster™ is stable under normal conditions and neither oxidizes nor degrades during storage. It BromoBooster™ is a concentrated mixture of stabilizers and Bromothane S that can be added to any Bromothane™ solvent, thereby replenishing any stabilizer that has been consumed by the vapor degreasing process. Maintaining appropriate stabilizer concentrations prevents damage to parts or the cleaning system itself. The quantity of BromoBooster™ required is determined by the results from the BromoTest™ acid acceptance test.

The product should be stored in a clean, dry area and protected from temperature extremes. Stored product should not be allowed to exceed temperatures of 52°C/125°F to prevent leakage of the container from pressure and expansion. BromoBooster™ packaging is compatible with explosion-proof and/or air-driven drum pumps, the use of which is recommended. Pouring is not an approved procedure. Personal protective equipment should be used. Protective gloves and aprons made of butyl rubber are recommended. Suitable eye protection should be worn to protect against eye contact.

 • Product Stewardship •

To prevent any inappropriate use of the Bromothane™ solvents, these products are restricted to being used only in engineered cleaning systems such as vapor degreasers. To ensure worker safety, MicroCare has designed a “first fill” training program which is offered with the product at no cost. Contact MicroCare to learn about the “first fill” procedures or for updated training.

All Bromothane™ users are required to assure worker safety by running a simple workplace exposure test annually.

If, at any time, there are questions about these or any other MicroCare products, their use or the results obtained, please contact MicroCare immediately for fast, accurate and up-to-date information.
